Do you ever have those days when you’re so exhausted you don’t feel like cleaning or cooking and you plop your child in front of the tv or tablet?

And then you have major mom guilt because you strive to be an amazing mom but today you fell short of your expectations.

You’re not alone.

When you have those days it’s easy to tell yourself stories like “I’m a bad mom.”

But why kick yourself when you’re already down?

In this thing called life you HAVE to be your own best friend.

You see, when you tell yourself negative stories like “I’m a bad mom” or “I’m a terrible wife,” your brain will look for situations to confirm your thoughts.

Which is why you have to change the narrative in your brain.

Because guess what?

If you tell yourself positive things, your brain will look for ways to confirm those thoughts as well.

What are positive affirmations?

According to Dictionary.com, an affirmation is “a statement that is declared to be true.” So a positive affirmation means stating a true and uplifting statement with confidence. But it goes much deeper than that.

Positive affirmations are a way to help you overcome limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs. Those beliefs that stop you from doing something before you even try because your brain tells you that you’re not good enough or you’re going to fail so don’t waste your time.

It’s not enough to just say them every day. You have to believe in what you’re saying so your brain believes it’s true.

The secrets that make positive affirmations so powerful

Before you dive into the mindset hack of using positive affirmations to dominate limiting beliefs, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

Speak in the present tense

You want your brain to believe what you’re saying as if it’s already true. Speaking in the present tense is more powerful than speaking in the future tense.

Here’s an example:

  • Future tense: “I will be a good mom one day.”
  • Present tense: “I am a good mom.”

Give yourself more power and believe your affirmations are true now, not someday in the future.

Say them daily

Repetition is key. Say your positive affirmations at least once a day.

The more you say them the easier it’ll be for your brain to start finding evidence that they’re true.

Focus on the positive

Another trick for making your positive affirmations work is to keep them positive!

You wouldn’t want to say, “I’m not weak” because your brain focuses on the word weak.

Instead, say “I’m strong” so your brain finds evidence to support how strong you are.
