Have you dreamed of quitting your job to start your own business? Don’t let the fear of the unknown hold you back from your full potential.

Your alarm goes off again.

You know you’ve pressed the snooze button seven more times than you should have. As you lay in bed almost late for work, you contemplate if you need this job.

You drag yourself out of bed slower than a snail. Hoping one day you’ll be able to quit this job and finally do something you love.

But your family needs this income and what you’re passionate about may not even work out.

What if you fail after you leave your nice paying job that brings in a consistent income?

You’ll never know if you never try!

I felt all of this and more when I decided to leave my nursing career behind with the dreams of owning my very own online business. I was tired of going through the motions of adulting.

There are so many women in my position.

Women who have gone to school or worked their way up the corporate ladder to get that dream job. But it turns out that dream is a nightmare.

You no longer look forward to going to work every day. It becomes a chore. You may even feel depressed thinking about going back to work.

I’ve been there. And I decided to make a change.

As a mom, we’re so many things to so many people. If anything goes wrong it’s always mom’s fault.

So why not do something that makes you happy? Why not wake up every day looking forward to working?

You could be doing something you’re so excited and passionate about that it doesn’t even feel like work!

Here’s my story about how I worked to become a nurse, only to realize that wasn’t the career for me. And how I took a chance on myself and decided to make my happiness a priority.

Becoming a nurse

I always knew I wanted to be in the medical field since I was a young girl. I grew up watching my mom as an Intensive Care Unit nurse and I loved knowing she had specialized training to save lives.

That was so amazing to me! And I wanted to do the same thing.

I started working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a nursing home. Oh my goodness! This was by far the hardest I’ve ever worked.

I couldn’t apply to nursing school fast enough!

Once I got accepted to college, I did as any college student would and got distracted by boys, parties, and living the college life. My grades started slipping and I knew there was no way I was going to get accepted into the Bachelor’s degree nursing program.

I decided to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) because the program admission wasn’t as difficult. I got accepted my very first attempt and graduated in 18 months.

Unfortunately, there weren’t many employment options for LPN’s. It was either a clinic or nursing homes. I tried both… and hated both.

I always knew that my LPN diploma was a stepping stone for me to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

After being an LPN for 2 years I got accepted to a registered nursing (RN) program.

I finished that program in 1 year and started working at what I thought was my dream job.

I became a cardiology nurse because the heart has always been so interesting to me. I learned so much and wanted to work my way up to a director.

The Game Changer

After only 6 months on the job, I witnessed things that turned me away from nursing altogether.

  • I felt as though I could never provide a high level of patient care because there was so much charting and never enough help!
  • I didn’t agree with the type of care being given.
  • I saw my superiors given the ultimatum to either take a demotion or leave because of company pay cuts.

Leaving work each day and feeling like a crappy nurse is not what I went to school for. I want to help people and I felt like I couldn’t do that with all of the red tape of the medical field.

When I witnessed the assistant directors lose their jobs out of the blue for the company to save money I was done.

That was the moment I realized I didn’t want to put the fate of my family in someone else’s hands.

During those 6 months of nursing at the hospital, I was able to save $6,000!

Granted my husband and I had no kids at the time, but we were still living beyond our means like most families. So when we found out we were pregnant things got real!

We committed to the idea of me staying home with our new baby.

We created a budget and made some massive budget cuts.

Take a chance on YOU

I know it’s frightening, but life is too short to be unhappy. Start TODAY by grabbing the Foundation For Success workbook to get a solid business plan.

When I decided I wanted to stay home and start a blog, my husband was reluctant at first, of course. He didn’t know it was possible to make a full time income from blogging.

But he got on board (eventually) and has become my biggest fan.

Although we had money saved, we didn’t want to touch any of it. We always have at least 6 months worth of money saved for bills and other expenses

I was able to quit my job when I was 37 weeks pregnant and I haven’t regretted that decision at all.

Unfortunately, you may not be able to quit your job yet. Think of each paycheck as an investment in your family’s future.

An investment in your dream career and your dream life.

If you have extra money at the end of the month or you get an unexpected check, save as much of it as possible.

The more you save the quicker you can start living your dream.

Start meal planning. Cut or lower unnecessary expenses

Every time you’re tempted to spend money, remind yourself of your goal. Not saying you can’t splurge a little, but you need to budget for your splurge.

Famous last words…

It’s never too late to live the life you’ve always dreamed of.

In this age of technology, it’s more possible than ever to start a successful business from the comfort of your own home.

Start watching your spending and use the Foundation For Success workbook to plan the details of your business.
